Former national cyclist opens Fitness Centre in B/ce

Corentyne residents marked another ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday by burning some calories at the Benjamin’s Fitness Centre at Fyrish.

Minutes after the fitness center’s grand opening ceremony, the doors were opened to the public; treadmills were fired up and the weight room was christened with the first drops of sweat.

The new fitness centre, which is a fillip for Berbician sportsmen and women and regular gym goers, is owned by the former national cyclist, Wilbert Benjamin. It sits above the Benjamin Sports Store which was opened to the public about five years ago.

“It is good for the community since a lot of people are not eating right and are not conscious about their health, so I think this will help people in this community to be more fit and feel good about themselves,” Benjamin said Monday.

With about 2000 square feet, the new multi-million dollar centre, has more floor space than most of the gyms in the Corentyne area.

Amenities include cardio equipment and state of the art weight lifting equipment.

For a limited time offer, the monthly gym fees will be $4000 per person and once signed up, new members will receive a free t-shirt and towel.
