General Services crush Mines 61-44 to retain title

General Services successfully retained their title in the BOSAI Minerals Group (Guyana) Inter-Department Basketball Championship, crushing Mines 61-44 on Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-Court.

Jamal Bethune recorded a game high 22 points in the lopsided contest while Domain Webster contributed a valuable 13 points. Similarly, the combination of Marlon Persaud and Alphie Robertson chipped in with 10 and eight points, correspondingly.

For the loser, Marvin Russell battled to 15 points while Carl Isaacs and Marlon Pollydore recorded nine and five points, respectively. General Services’ dictated proceedings from jump ball, as the first period ended 16-11.

The holders maintained their advantage heading into the half time interval, scoring 17 points to their opponent’s 14 points to lead 33-25 at the end of the second stanza. General Services strengthened their grip on the contest in the pivotal third period, outscoring the challenger 18-10 to enter the fourth quarter firmly in control at 51-35. The contest was then sealed in the low scoring final period as, General Services outhustled Mines 10-9.

Meanwhile in the third place playoff, Plant Maintenance crushed Plant Operations by a 79-56 scoreline. Monty Niles Jr. registered 19 points, inclusive of four three pointers. Mark Louis was the next best scorer with 18 points while Dave Hopkinson tallied 16 points. Chipping in with 10 points was Anson Durant.

For Operations, Quincy Datson recorded a game high 28 points while Myron Prescott assisted with 18 points. Supporting with eight points was Patrice Ricketts.
