CARIFTA gold for Bright, McKoy on day two

Long jumper, Chantoba Bright and long distance runner, Claudrice McKoy continued Guyana’s gold medal heist yesterday on day two of the FLOW CARIFTA Games currently underway in Curacao.

McKoy, who won a bronze medal Saturday in the Girls U18 1500m bested a duo of Jamaicans to the podium to win the Girls 3000m open event in 10:39.03 to take the gold. Britnie Dixon (10:44.63) and Kayan Green (10:45.76) were second and third respectively.

Elsewhere in the field, Bright who snared two silver medals at last year’s Games, struck gold in the Girls U-18 long jump. The Lindener leaped to 5.91m to also relegate a pair of Jamaicans, Annia Ashley (5.88m) and Lotavia Brown (5.66m).

During day two also, Guyana’s golden boy, Compton Caesar who struck gold in the marquee Boys U-20 100m final, qualified for the 200m final today. He clocked 21.86s.

Anfernee Headecker, who won a silver medal in the boys U20 1500m and Samuel Lynch also qualified for the Boys U-20, 800m final today.
