Woodpecker Hikers edged Old Fort 1-0 when the Woodpecker Products women’s first division hockey league continued Saturday at the St. Stanislaus College ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Firm favourites, Hikers were held by a determined and dogged Old Fort unit for the majority of the contest. However, Latacia Chung proved to be the difference netting in the dying minutes of the first period.

Receiving the ball from the right side at the top of the shooting arc, Chung battled past the final Old Fort defender before lashing her past the advancing goalkeeper into the right corner of the net.

The event resumes today with Hikers battling tourney favourite Pizza Hut Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Old Fort engaging Spartans at the GCC ground, Bourda.
