Chase leads Windies stars rise in rankings

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Roston Chase’s second Test century has catapulted him into the top 50 in the latest ICC Test batting rankings while his teammate and fellow Barbadian Shai Hope, has moved to the brink of cracking the top 100 for the first time.

This comes after both produced excellent performances to help West Indies crush Pakistan by 106 runs on the final day of the second Test at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on Thursday.

Chase carved out 131 in the first innings as West Indies made 312 while Hope hit a career-best 90 to see the Caribbean to 268 all out in their second innings.

As a result, the 25-year-old Chase has jumped 21 places to a career-best 49th while Hope, 23, has moved up 19 spots to 101st.

For Hope, the innings was his maiden Test half-century in his ninth match, breaking a run of low scores in his career.

There was also success for Man-of-the-Match fast bowler Shannon Gabriel and captain Jason Holder who made healthy strides in the bowlers rankings.

Gabriel, who was brilliant in the second innings with a spell of five for 11 to end with a nine-wicket match haul, has entered the top-20 for the first time after jumping 14 places to 19th.

Seamer Holder, meanwhile, who took three wickets in each innings, has moved up 12 spots to 40th, after also making progress in the rankings following the opening Test at Sabina Park two weeks ago.

He also reiterated his status as a promising all-rounder with a half-century in the first innings of the Barbados Test which has seen him leap five places to 11th in the all-rounders rankings.

Australia captain Steve Smith continues to head the batting rankings while Indian left-arm spinner Ravi Ashwin tops the bowling rankings.

Bangladeshi star Shakib-al-Hasan leads the all-rounders rankings.
