Draws, walkovers the order of the night

It was an evening of drawn encounters as the Alex Bunbury Sports and Academic Academy (ABSAA) coordinated ‘Clash of Veterans’ Football tournament continued Monday at the Tucville Community Centre Ground.

With two of the programmed matches ending via the walkover route, the three remaining fixtures all failed produce a winner as staunch defending, aided by poor some finishing, dominated proceedings.

Played under damp conditions, Wales and Santos battled to a 1-1 score with G. Gittens netting for Santos and O. Gomes for Wales.

Similarly, Beacons and Newtown Masters match ended 0-0 while Pele and Park Rangers battled to a scoreless draw. In other results, Western Tigers and Thomas United claimed walkover wins against Plaisance and Rastas respectively.

The tournament, which will continue Saturday at the same venue, will be played in a round robin format featuring teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Bank Demerara.

Upon the conclusion of the group round, the top two finishers from each zone will advance to the elimination round.

In the previous matches on May 13th at the same venue, Rastas crushed Park Rangers 6-0 with O. Huntley scoring five goals and D. Roberts the other.

Similarly, Thomas United brushed aside Wales 2-0 through goals from K. Blair and B. Rodriguez respectively. Also, Pele and Santos battled to a 0-0 result.

In other results, Park Rangers gained a walkover from Newtown, Rastas defeated Western Tigers and Plaisance defeated Beacon FC.

Trophies as well as cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the event. Sponsors of the event are Banks DIH Limited, Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Star Party Rental, Leading Edge and Fruta Conquerors FC.
