Vanguard starts DVA Division A league with double strike

Reigning female Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA)  champions  Vanguard Volleyball Club yesterday began the DVA Division A volleyball league with two wins on the opening day of the league at the National Gymnasium, yesterday.

Vanguard, in the opening match, defeated Pakuri Warriors of St. Cuthbert’s Mission by three sets to one to signal their intention early on. Vanguard took the first two sets 25 – 22 and 25 – 19 before Pakuri took the third 25 – 22. The reigning champions though, took the fourth set to seal the deal.

They returned in the third match of the evening to defeat Linden Fluffy Girls in straight sets (25-14, 25 – 18, 25 – 9) to earn themselves seven points on the day.

Fluffy Girls and Pakuri also enjoyed success yesterday after they both defeated Castrol Strikers who had a surprisingly woeful day at the office.

Strikers lost to Fluffy Girls 25 – 17, 25 – 16, before winning the third set 25 – 19. They then surrendered the final set 19-25  to the Lindeners.

Pakuri handed Strikers a similar three sets to one drubbing after they took the first two sets 25 – 12 and 25 – 22 before Strikers saved face to win the third set 25- 23. Pakuri, however, sealed the deal by winning the final set 25 – 14.
