George, lone Guyanese medallist at SA c/ships

Guyana’s Olympic quarter-mile sprinter Winston George produced a season-best dash to capture the nation’s lone medal, a gold, at the  South American Senior Championships held in Paraguay over the weekend.

George, who is also the national 400-metre record holder, sprinted across the finish line in 45.42 seconds ahead of the Colombian pair of Jhon Zapata and Herrera Andres who had to settle for second and third respectively.

His efforts landed him a spot at this year’s IAAF World Championships set for London, in August.

Adonis, who also competed in the 200m dash, finished third in his heat, clocking 21.47 seconds which failed to land him a spot in the finals.

Jenea McCammon, on the other hand, finished fifth in the 400-metre hurdles finals while also missing out on a podium finish after she ended the 100-metre hurdles in fourth place with a time of 56.04 seconds.
