Sprinter Compton Caesar’s dream year continued yesterday when he bested a strong field including Emmanuel Archibald and Rupert Perry to win the 100m event at the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) National Senior Championships yesterday at the Leonora Track and Field Centre, West Coast Demerara.

Yesterday’s race was supposed to separate the `men’ from the `boys’ but Caesar had other ideas and won from Archibald and Perry in that order.

Caesar had shocked many with his 100m gold medal performance at this year’s CARIFTA games and he followed up that with a sensational win in the South American U20 championships held here early last month.

The women’s 100m was won by 16-year-old Kenisha Phillips, a 200m bronze medal winner at this year’s South American U20 championships from Onasha Rogers while Daniel Wilson breezed to victory in the 400m with Samuel Lynch in second place while overseas-based Alita Moore won the 400m women’s event comfortably from Avon Samuels.

This year’s championships will see the athletes rewarded with medals and cash grants.
