Guyana to host RAN 15s championship final

The final of the Rugby America’s North (RAN) 15s championship game involving Guyana and USA South is exactly three weeks and three days away and it has been confirmed that barring the inclement weather, the host venue will be the National Park Rugby field.

This is according to Terrence Grant, the Liaison Officer for the Match Officials.

“We will be using the National Park unless inclement weather forces a change,” said Grant yesterday.

The National Park is the back yard of the national rugby outfit dubbed ‘The Green Machine’.

Meanwhile, coach of the unit, Shane Grant-Stuart, gave an update to Stabroek Sport yesterday.

“Playing at home with the support that we get from the fans is always to our advantage. These guys look forward to playing in their backyard, we are not worried about the opposition but sticking to our game plan and performing on the day.”

The training sessions of the national team are currently being conducted at the St. Stanislaus College Ground.

The national team, which defeated Barbados and Trinidad en route to clinching the Southern Zone title, finished with 10 tournament points but has a higher seeding than USA South and therefore will to host the final.

Guyana was ranked number two by RAN after losing in the final to Mexico last year. USA South was unranked last year after they did not participate in the annual tourney.
