Showstoppers keeps show on the road

Sparta Boss, Broad Street, North Ruimveldt and Showstoppers advanced to the next round when the ‘Keep Ya Five Alive’ Futsal Championship commenced Thursday.

Played at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Sparta Boss defeated Russian All-Stars 4-0.

Gregory Richardson opened the scoring in the seventh minute stabbing home from the left side after the initial strike was parried into his path.

The East La Penitence unit increased its lead in the 12th minute when an attempted left side cross from Solomon Austin was deflected into the centre of the net by a defender.

Devon Millington scored two minutes later, rounding the advancing goalkeeper before slotting into the empty net.

The win was sealed in the 23rd minute when Eusi Phillips thumped a powerful effort into the roof of the net from outside the centre of the penalty area.

In another fixture, North Ruimveldt downed Grove Hi-Tech 5-1. Gerald Gittens bagged a brace in the sixth and seventh minute, while Linris Carrington, Travis Grant and Nkosi Barker scored in the 21st, 26th and 30th minute respectively.  On target in the loss was Domini Garnett in the 17th minute.

Showstoppers kept their show on the road by edged Sophia 8-6.

Delroy Ferdinand tallied a hat-trick in the eight, 21st and 27th minute while Marvin Josiah netted in the 36th and 37th minute and Dexroy Adams in the 16th and 38th minute.

Sherwin Halley added to the result in the sixth minute. For Sophia, Desmond Cottam recorded a hat-trick in the 17th, 22nd and 26th minute while Shem Arthur bagged a brace in the 25th and 33rd minute.

Chipping in with a 11th minute conversion was Akeem Jaikissoon.

Meanwhile, Broad Street edged West Back Road 2-1. Devon Johnson and Samuel Hunte scored in the 14th and 29th minute respectively while Josiah Charles scored in the 17th minute for the loser.

In other results, Kitty hammered Plaisance 8-1. Anthony Sancho recorded a helmet trick in the second, 16th, 17th and 19th minute while Daniel McKenzie netted in the third and 18th minute.

Adding to the score line in the 10th and 20th minute were Sunil Logan and Jahaal Greaves respectively. For the losing team, Warren Gilkes netted in the first minute.

Also, Rhythm Star edged Old School Ballers 4-3. Kevin Agard netted twice in the second and 12th minute, while Sceyon Hope and Teon Jones scored in the 18th and 19th minute respectively.

For Old School Ballers, Junior Jordan netted in the ninth and 16th minute and  Moses Gittens in the eighth minute.

Winner of the event will walk away with $500,000 and the championship trophy while the runners-up will receive $250,000 and a trophy. The event will resume on Tuesday at the same venue.
