Berbice defeat Demerara to win female Under-19 Inter-County T20 competition

- Thomas takes rare T20 six-for to highlight final day

Berbice defeated Demerara by nine wickets to win the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female Under -19 Inter-County T20 tournament at the Everest Cricket Club Ground, yesterday.

Berbice won the toss and invited Demerara to bat which saw them being reduced to 27-5.

They were eventually dismissed for a paltry 68 in 17.2 overs.

Middle order batter Abigale Scott’s 28 not – out, which included two fours and a six, was the only double figure score.

Seamer and skipper Shabika Gajnabi, who hit good areas, bagged 3-4 from her allotted four overs bowling for Berbice.

She received support from Omadevi Matadin (2-11) and Sheneta Grimmond (2-19) in a tidy bowling effort.

Berbice in response raced to 69 – 1 in seven overs after losing national player Sheneta Grimmond in the first over of their innings to seamer Sherry Fraser (1-25).

Marian Samaroo who score 25- not out and Gagnabi 11 not – out, then came together to see their side safely home.

Meanwhile, in the earlier match, Essequibo defeated the President’s XI by 47 runs in their contest.

President’s XI won the toss and opted to field and Essequibo, who only fielded nine players, responded by scoring 88-8 in 12.2 overs.

Stacy Moses (20) and Keshia Tucker (16) were the main contributors as Kassica Monroe’s 4-28 did the damage for the President’s XI.

Essequibo then routed the President’s XI for 41-9 (President’s XI fielded 10 players) in 10.3 overs as Kemonie Thomas grabbed 6-9 from three overs. Only Kamini Ramsammy (13) reached double figures. A squad of 26 players will now be selected to participate in three trial matches to select the Guyana Under – 19 side.
