Dave and Celina’s All Stars now the greatest

Linden champs Dave and Celina’s All-Stars are the new street football kings after crushing Hustlers 4-1 Sunday in the final of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ national championships at the Demerara Park Tarmac.

Rawle `Bony’ Gittens recorded a double in the sixth and 20th minute while Kennard Simon and Keon Sears scored in the 12th and 19th minute. For the losing team, Anthony Sancho scored in the 15th minute.

Dave and Celina’s All-Stars walked away with $550,000 and the coveted trophy. They also became the first team from outside the Georgetown zone to win the event.

They also became the third team (Queen Street Tiger Bay and Sparta Boss) to win both the zone final and national final in the same year and the fourth unit (Back Circle) to win both tournaments.

For their efforts, Hustlers walked away with $300,000 and a trophy. In the third place playoff, Showstoppers downed Silver Bullets 1-0. Hubert Pedro netted in the fourth minute.

Showstoppers earned $200,000 and Silver Bullets $100,000. In the semi-final round, Dave and Celina’s All-Stars edged Jermaine and Family Silver Bullets 4-3. Gittens scored a hat-trick in the 20th, 30th+1 and 30th+4, while Simon netted in the 29th minute.

For the losing team, Jermaine Samuels tallied a brace in the 30th and 30th+6 minute while Damion Williams scored in the eighth minute. In the other fixture, Hustlers edged Showstoppers 1-0. Donald McKenzie netted in the 18th minute.
