Rain washes out play in LABA Open tournament

Rain once again had the final say washing out play in the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA)/Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Open tournament on Saturday.

The heavy downpour at the MSC Hard-Court effectively ended any hopes of the matches being contested as the playing surface was deemed too dangerous for the players by the organizers.

In an effort to safeguard the health of the participants, the officials have rescheduled the two fixtures for a later date.

In the opening fixture at 18:30hrs, third seeded Victory Valley Royals was set to battle fourth ranked Amelia’s Ward Jets, while the feature showdown at 20:30hrs was slated to pit Linden champion Retrieve Raiders against second seed Half Mile Bulls.

Weather permitting, the event will resume on the same venue on Wednesday with another doubleheader. At 18:30hrs, Block 22 games will lock horns with Christianburg Pistons.

In the feature affair at 20:30hrs, Victory Valley Royals will match skills with Bankers Trust Falcons. The top three finishers in the tourney will walk away with trophies, medals and replicas.
