Gully Side outguns defending champs Jetty Gunners to reach final

A new champion will be crowned in the third Annual Xtra Beer ‘Ballers in the Summer’ Street football championships as titlist Jetty Gunners lost to Gully Side on sudden penalty kicks on Sunday.

With regulation time ending scoreless at the Pouderoyen Market Tarmac, Gully Side secured the upset victory via a 2-1 score. Meanwhile, Showstoppers dismissed Future Crane 2-0.

Stephon Jupiter and Keoma Gravesande scored in the seventh and 13th minute respectively.

Similarly, Bagotstown Warriors crushed Harmony Ballers by a 3-0 margin.

Moses Selman, Shaquille Albert and Lucort Forde were on target in the lopsided result.

Also, Silver Bullets of Linden squeaked past North Ruimveldt 1-0 compliments of a Jermaine Samuels conversion.

Back Circle maintained their dominance over Broad Street, winning by a 1-0 scoreline. Adrian Aaron was on target in the fourth minute. Agricola was also among the winners downing Bent Street 1-0.

Bilal Abdul-Jabbar found the back of the net in the ninth minute. Kitty Hustlers secured their berth to the next round, needling Beterverwagting (BV) 1-0 compliments of a Jamal Codrington effort in the 12th minute.

In other results, Samaroo Dam downed Patentia Street Ballers 2-1 on penalty kicks, following a 0-0 score at the end of normal time. Speedboat also clinched their berth to the next round, defeating Rising Stars 3-2 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended scoreless.

The competition will also continue tomorrow at the same venue. Winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $150,000, $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.

On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will walk away with $40,000.
