A match-winning all-round effort from Mandy Mangru, propelled Guyana’s national girls team to a seven-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago in the final of the  Regional Invitational Under-19 tournament at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, on Sunday.

The final which was decided by the Duckworth/Lewis method, saw the host being limited to 94 – 9 from their allotted overs with Plaffiana Millington grabbing 4 – 17 while Mangru supported with 2 – 8, both from their four overs to complete a tidy bowling effort.

Trinidad’s skipper Reniece Boyce top scored with 33 while Renella Dookie scored 22 off 20 balls and Alia Joseph chipped in with 10.

Guyana, chasing a revised target of 86 in 18 overs, reached 86 for three in 17. 2 overs with Mangra returning with the bat to score 34 to see her side to their first female under-19 title.

Her innings included six fours which came off 36 balls during which time she was supported by Skipper Shabika Gajnabi, who scored an unbeaten 20.

April Ramoutar (3-17) was the lone wicket taker for the Twin-Island Republic.
