Unbeaten Patriots humble Stars by 33 runs

The St. Kitts Nevis Patriots won their third successive game last evening when they beat the St. Lucia Stars by 33 runs, in the tenth game of the current Caribbean Premier League, at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium at Gros Islet, St. Lucia.

Invited to bat by Stars’ captain Darren Sammy, the Patriots pounded the hapless St. Lucian franchise’s bowling attack for 196 for six wickets from their allotted 20 overs.  Evin Lewis led the way with 92 off 52 deliveries, including seven 6’s and five 4’s, as the Patriots racked up the highest score to date in the tournament. Other useful contributions came off the bats of Carlos Brathwaite, 21 and Mohammad Nabi, 24.

For the Stars, who tried seven bowlers in an effort to stem the tide, Jerome Taylor was the most successful bowler with three wickets at the cost of 46 runs.

The St. Lucian Stars could only muster 163 for 8 wickets in their 20 overs as they lost their fourth consecutive match to occupy the cellar position in the points table.

Andre Fletcher, 48, Marlon Samuels, 21, Rahkeem Cornwall, 23 not out, and Kyle Mayers 20, were the leading scorers. The unbeaten Patriots were led by Mohammad Nabi who took 3 for 15, and Mohammad Hafeez with 3 for 22.

Up to press time, at the Queen’s Park Oval, the Barbados Tridents had scored 152 for 9 off their 20 overs against the Trinbago Knight Riders. Shoaib Malik 51, and Kane Williamson, 30, were the leading run getters.
