Brazilian team invited to compete with locals

In an effort to increase the scope of the inaugural Guinness ‘Cage Football Classic’, the coordinator, Three Peat Promotions, has invited a Brazilian team to participate in the championship.

According to an official release from the entity, the decision to invite the Portuguese speaking outfit, was done to diversify the sport and attract new audiences and viewership.

The document further said, “The new and exciting format will produce a brand of football never seen before and choosing a winner will prove to be a difficult undertaking.” The release concluded, “All systems are in place for a riveting and competitive tournament and all the expected competitors are well prepared, following a competitive season of Futsal and Street football tournaments.”

The event which is slated to run from August, 24th to September, 16th, will consist of 32 teams battling for over $700,000 in cash and prizes at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

The scheduled dates of competition are August 24th, 29th, 31st, September 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 16th.

Among the local teams invited thus far to compete are Georgetown units Gold is Money, Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Future Stars, Leopold Street, Sophia, Tucville, North Ruimveldt, Queen Street Tigerbay, Albouystown-B, Albouystown-A, North East La Penitence, Alexander Village, Old Skool Ballers, Broad Street, Kitty Hustlers and Bent Street. The out of town invitees include  East Coast of Demerara units, Plaisance and Melanie, Linden teams Dave and Celina’s All-Stars and Silver Bullets, West Demerara outfits Showstoppers and ESPN, and East Bank of Demerara heavyweight Champion Boys.

Winner of the event will receive $400,000 and have their name etched on the coveted championship trophy, as the first ever victor of the tournament.
