Everest defeats GCC by nine wickets

Everest Cricket Club (ECC) yesterday defeated the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by nine wickets on the final day of the Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall GCA first-division, two-day competition at the GCC Bourda cricket ground.

GCC, resuming on 19 without loss, reached 135 for five at lunch with skipper Robin Bacchus smashing a breezy 51, a knock which included two fours and three sixes before he was LBW to left-arm chinaman spinner Ashkaya Persaud.

The home side, however, was dismissed for 198 an hour after lunch after overhauling the first innings deficit and acquiring a slim 56 runs lead.

Devon Lord, batting at number seven, contributed 33 to ensure that Everest returned to the crease.

Javid Rashid (4 – 44) and Persaud (4-39) were the main wicket takers  Everest who completed the nine-wicket victory by reaching 57 – 1 in the eighth over with Tagnarine Chanderpaul (13) and Persaud (28), the unbeaten batsmen. Saheed Mohammed (10) was the wicket to fall, LBW to seamer Joshua Wade.
