Dorado Speed Swim Club to stage meet in October

The Dorado Speed Swim club will hosting its first meet since the recent 23rd Goodwill Swim Meet October 14 at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal.

The meet, the Dorado Speed Swim Club Invitational Pentathlon, will see swimmers battling for top honors for themselves and clubs.

The local team expected to participate are the Dolphin Speed Swim Club, the Orca Speed Swim Club, the Sea-Otters Swim Club and the host club.

Two teams from neighbouring Suriname are also expected to participate.  The rules of the pentathlon are that the swimmers must swim all five events in their respective age-groups (the Individual Medley  the Butterfly, the Backstroke, the Breaststroke and the Freestyle events) in order to get the trophy for the individual with the highest points.

Swimmers are welcome to compete in more than the five events required for the Pentathlon if they wish, but would not be considered for the highest points trophy if they do not participate in the five events.  Interested persons can register on October 6 between 5.30 and 7.30 p.m. at the National Aquatic Centre at a cost of $200 per event.

Age group eligibility will be determined by the age of the competitor on December 31, 2016.

Warm up is scheduled for 2.30 p.m. and the start of meet, 3.30pm.

Age groups and events for meet: Eight years and under – 100m Individual Medley (IM), 25m Butterfly, 25m Backstroke, 25m Breaststroke and 25m Freestyle.

Nine -10 years:- 200m IM, 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle.

Eleven -13 years and 13-14 years: – 200m IM, 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 100, Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle.

Fifteen years and over:- 400m IM, 200m Butterfly, 200m Backstroke, 200m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle. (NS)
