UG secures first innings honours over GNIC

The University of Guyana took first innings honours over GNIC in the latest round of the GISE, Star Party Rental & Trophy Stall 1st Division 2-day competition over the weekend which was played at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground.

GNIC after losing the toss was inserted on the rain affect day and compiled 156 for nine before declaring their innings closed.

Ranole Bourne was the centerpiece of the innings after stroking 84 in GNIC’s batting effort as former national youth players; off spinner Linden Austin and Michael Shalim grabbed four wickets apiece for the students who ended day one 18 – 1.

UG, however, manage to cruise past their first innings total on day two by posting 240 all out from 52 overs. Opener Nicholas Carryl scored 44 while Shalim retuned to also record 44 as UG gained a lead of 84.

GNIC in their second innings reached 100 for3 when play was called as Vidal Crandon was unbeaten on 63.
