Ras Paris

A vendor was yesterday remanded to prison after he denied being in possession of almost a pound of cannabis.

City Magistrate Fabayo Azore read the charge to Ras Paris which stated that on October 3, at North Ruimveldt, he had 448 grammes (equivalent to 0.9 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking.

Paris, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Bail was later objected to by the prosecutor. It was further stated that the drugs were found in a bag which the defendant had in his hand.

Paris, however, told the court that the police searched the bottom flat of the house and found the drugs, whereas, he lives in the upper flat. He noted that the officers allowed the persons who lived in the bottom to go free and took him to where they found the drugs. Paris further noted that the officers told him that the drugs belonged to him.

He added that he never had anything in his hand, contrary to what the prosecutor told the court.

He was subsequently remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on October 25.
