Essequibo and East Coast play to a draw

Rain intervened and dampened an anticipated exciting finish to the Essequibo – East Coast encounter in the penultimate round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars three – day Franchise league at the Tuschen Sports Club ground yesterday, the match ending in a draw.

East Coast, resuming their innings on 51 – 4, reached 187 for seven after 23 overs were lost due to rain forcing the match to end in a draw.

Baskar Yadram, however, used the opportunity to good effect and stroked a fluent 62 while skipper Rajendra Chandraka was left unbeaten on 57 after the match was called off.

Bowling for Essequibo, Kevin Gordon had 3 for 23 while Anthony and Akinie Adams picked up a wicket each.

The final round of the competition begins this weekend with leaders Essequibo likely to take championship honours. They will come up against West Demerara at Tuschen in a match where Tagenarine Chanderpaul will come up against his father Shivnarine.
