Permaul, Rutherford lead Guyana into final

Left -arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul copped his second consecutive man of the match award, while young and exciting all-rounder Scherfane Rutherford smashed an even fifty to carry Guyana to a low scoring four-wicket win over Jamaica in the ongoing Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association T20 Independence Cup in Antigua.

Jamaica batting first, were bundled out for 105 with Amazon Warrior Steven Taylor top scoring with 39, while Fabian Allen made 18. Permaul, who is enjoying a good time, snared 3 for 8 from his full quota to stifle the Jamaicans, as Ricardo Adams in his comeback outing for Guyana took 2 for 7 from three overs to complement his senior counterpart.

Guyana then reached their target in 19.2 overs, as Rutherford carved out his maiden fifty in national colours, while Robin Bacchus contributed 28, as Guyana finished on 106 for 6.

Seamer Odean Smith picked up three wickets in a losing cause.

With Guyana assured a place in the tomorrow’s final after ending atop the group, they will now await the winners of the Jamaica / Antigua and Barbuda fixture set for this evening.
