Centuries from opener Balchand Baldeo and middle order batsman Rajiv Ivan yesterday spurred Upper Corentye to first innings honours over Georgetown on day two of their final round action in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) three – day Franchise League match at Port Mourant.

Upper Corntyne, resuming the day on 131 from one, trailing Georgetown by 143 runs, were dismissed for 440 in the 92nd over of their innings as Baldeo (133) and Ivan (102) scored centuries.
David Latchaya (69) and Joshua Ramsammy (42) were also among the runs. Georgetown’s part-time, off-spinner Shemroy Barrington grabbed 6 for 38 while leg-spinner, Steven Sankar collected 4 for 158.

Georgetown, in their second innings, were once again staring down the barrel, ending the day on 115 – 6 with Rayond Perez scoring 41 and skipper Paul Wintz, 24.
Over at the Everest Cricket Club Ground, Camp Road, in the clash between East Bank and East Coast which was affected by the weather, East Coast ended day one on 184 for 3 with Ameer Khan and Kamesh Yadram ending unbeaten with 69 and 57, respectively.
Bhaskar Yadram scored 38 while Colin Benn, Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed and Sage Hathiramen picked up a wicket each for East Bank.

Meanwhile, at Tuschen in another rain-affected opening day between top-of-the table Essequibo and West Demerara, Essequibo ended the day on 127 – 4 after winning the toss and opting to bat. Test legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul is unbeaten on 62 while opener Kevon Boodie contributed 29 on the rain affected day.
