John bests field to win PowerAde 40-mile road race

Jamal John returned to his winning ways yesterday.

One day after placing second in the National Park to Geron Williams, the season’s most successful wheelsman turned the tables on his fellow national rider to cart off the spoils of the 40-mile PowerAde road race staged at West Demerara.

The Team Coco’s standout won a fierce bunch sprint to record his 12th win of the season in one hour, 35 minutes and 19 seconds. He also pocketed a sprint prize in leading Paul DeNobrega and Williams on the podium.

Akeem Wilkinson, Walter Grant-Stuart and Silvio Innis filled out the top six rewarding positions for the event which started at the Demerara Harbor Bridge (DHB), proceeded to Parika and returned to the DHB fora the finish.

Other winners yesterday included: Warren ’40’ McKay (veteran), Talim Shaw (Mountain Bike) and Nigel Duguid (Junior).

The cycling season will continue on November 11 with the staging of a ‘Dash for Cash’ event in the National Park.
