GFSCA Guyana Cup 7 off to rollicking start

The Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association’s seventh annual international softball tournament featuring teams from Guyana, the United States of America and Canada got off to a rollicking start yesterday with several teams advancing to the next round of both the Open and Masters competitions.

In the Masters competition, Floodlights, arch rivals Regal Masters and Mike’s Wellman are among the teams advancing to the next round while

Boots All Stars, Farm and Corriverton are unbeaten in the Open category.

At Eve Leary, Boots All Stars beat Speedboat by 17 runs.

Boots All Stars, 136-7, Jonathan Fernandes, 31 and Brian Mangar 21; Mark Harold claimed 4-29 and Kishore Smith 2-20.

Speedboat, 111-9, Anand Bharat, 38, and Greg Singh 37. Fernandes, 3-21, C. Ramdhanie, 2-13 and Yodhanlall Sooklall, 2-33.

Corriverton defeated Amazon by 115 runs.  Corriverton, 236 all out in 20 overs. Eon Hooper, 55, J. Diaram 47, A. Narine 42 and K. Sobhai 22.

Boots All Stars beat Ontario SCL All Stars by 60 runs. Boots All Stars, 104 all out in 15.4 overs, Ejaz Mohamed, 24 and D. Williams 15. Amir Khan, 4-28, Amit Pooran 2-6 and Steve Ramdass 2-21.

Farm XI beat Amazon by 129 runs. Farm XI, 203-9, Ravindra Ramnauth, 54, Quazie Yusuf, 29, Rajesh Reddy, 24 and Sheldon Adams 23. Ganesh Mangal, 6-32. Amazon, 74 all out in 13.5 overs. Adams, 3-11. At Camp Ayanganna, Corriverton defeated NYSCL All Stars by 40 runs. Corriverton, 125 all out, Delbert Hicks and David Lukenauth, 35 and 22 respectively. J. Wessel and A. Singh each took three wickets.

NYSCL All Stars, 85 all out. A. Singh, 20. Lukenauth, 4-10. A. Narine, Eon Hooper and K. Gangaram each took two wickets.

NY Hustlers whipped Tri State by nine wickets. Tri State, 120 all out in 20 overs. R. Mathura, 20. NY Hustlers, 124-1 in 19 overs. Troy Lewis, 52 and Debo Sankar 46.

Regal Masters crushed Parika Defenders by nine wickets. Parika Defenders, 89 all out in 19 overs. Lalchand Madhu, 42. Raymond Harper grabbed 3-8, Parsram Persaud 2-8 and Laurie Singh 2-23.

At DCC, Floodlights defeated Albion Masters by 80 runs. Floodlights, 191-5, Ramo Malone, 59, Ramesh Narine, 45 and Unnis Yusuf, 28. V. Moonsammy captured two wickets. Albion, 111-9. Jagdesh Bhoj, 39; Ravi Lutchman, 3-16 and Clive Canterbury 3-23.

Ontario Masters overcame NY President’s XI by 66 runs. Ontario Masters, 181-7. Jaimini Singh, 41, Brijmohan Harritar, 29 and Shazam Baksh 22. Eric Jeffrey, Peter Persaud and Rudy Myers took two wickets each.

NY President’s XI, 115 all out in 16.5 overs. Mohamed Rafeek, 25, M. Babb 18 not out. Baksh, 3-18, M. Singh 3-25 and Rajendra Parsnauth 2-17.

NYSCL Masters whipped Marine Masters by 200 runs. NYSCL Masters, 260-4, Ronald Khan, 100 and Ravi Sahadeo, 57. Marine Masters, 60 all out in 13.1 overs. R. Khan, 4-2.

Floodlights beat NYSCL Masters by 28 runs. Floodlights, 187-3. Jagdesh Persaud 47, Ramesh Narine, 45 and Ramo Malone 44. Richmond Fraser, 2-44. NYSCL Masters, 159-8. Ravi Sahadeo, 66 and Tony Fernandes, 36. Jagdesh Persaud, 4-34, Narine 2-37 and Malone 2-39.
