Organisers extend Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ registration period

The qualifying round for the 2017 Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Zone has been rescheduled to November 17th with the deadline for the submission of registration forms  ending November 16th.

According to Three Peat Promotions, coordinators of the event, “The surge in interest to be a part of the event necessitated a rescheduling of the date. Much more teams have expressed their desire to be in the tournament and as such, it was decided that the start of the qualifying tournament and deadline of the registration period be extended.”

Initially, the date for the start of the qualifying round was November 11th at the Meadowbrook Tarmac with the deadline for submission of registration forms November 8th. The group stage of the championship will commence on November 22nd.

“The qualifiers, which is scheduled to last for the duration of three days, will be held at the Meadowbrook Gardens and possibly the East Ruimveldt Tarmacs [California Square]. Weather permitting, it is expected to be keenly contested, as the prospective teams battle for 16 berths to become a member of the final 32 teams in the opening group stage,” the release from the organisers stated

“Banks DIH Limited alongside its important partner Colours Boutique, has decided to outfit each of the 32 teams that will be contesting the group round with colourful uniforms. The balls will also have a vibrant outlook and these new developments will occur for the first time,” the release added.

Forms for the seventh edition of the event can be uplifted from the Banks DIH Limited, Caesar’s Place Durban Street location. The document can also be collected from tournament coordinator Rawle Welch on cell phone number 688-1776 and/or referee director Wayne Griffith on cell phone number 697-7777.

The completed forms can be dropped off at the Banks DIH Limited, Caesar’s Place, Durban Street location. They also be submitted to Welch and Griffith.

Venues that will be utilized during the event are Demerara Park, National Cultural Centre Tarmac, Burnham Basketball Court, Albouystown Tarmac and the East Ruimveldt Tarmac.

The confirmed playing dates are November 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 30th, December 2nd, 7th, 9th, 14th, with the grand finale slated for December 16th.

Winner of the overall event will walk-away with $500,000 and the championship trophy. They will also represent the region in the National playoffs.

The runners-up will pocket $250,000 while  the third and fourth place finishers will collect $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
