Guyana hockey teams off to winning start

Guyana got off to the perfect start in the Central American and Caribbean Games 2018 Hockey Qualifiers defeating Panama and Puerto Rico in the women and men’s division respectively yesterday.

Played at the Mona Facility, Kingston, Jamaica, the female unit humbled Panama 6-0. Kerensa Fernandes tallied a brace in the 24th and 46th minute while Shebiki Baptiste, Latacia Chung, Tamala Glenn and Marzana Fiedtkou scored in the sixth, 26th, 38th and 56th minute respectively.

Similarly, the Guyanese men downed Puerto Rico 4-1. Mark Sargeant opened the scoring in the 31st minute, before sibling Meshach Sargeant doubled the lead four minutes later.

Puerto Rico pulled one back in the 38th minute, as Ottus Feliciano scored. However, Guyana sealed the result via goals from Robert France and Aroydy Branford in the 56th and 57th minute respectively.

The women will continue their campaign today against Puerto Rico from 12:30hrs while the men will return to action on Wednesday against Guatemala.

The top two finishers from each division will qualify for the CAC Games.
