Rain wrecks opening day but Scorpions thrive

Rain ruined the opening day of the match at Sabina Park.

KINGSTON, Jamaica,  CMC – Rain allowed just 14 overs on the opening day of the third round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship between Jamaica Scorpions and Barbados Pride here Thursday night.

The day/night affair started an hour late because of wet conditions at Sabina Park, and Scorpions then made the most of choosing to bat first by racing to 77 without loss.

Rain ruined the opening day of the match at Sabina Park.

However, the rains returned after an hour’s play and kept players of the field before match officials were forced to abandon play without another ball bowled. Left-handed opener John Campbell was unbeaten on 42 while Garth Garvey was on 31, a partnership that saw the hosts scoring at a fair clip.

Campbell has so far struck eight fours in an enterprising 49-ball knock while Garvey, in his third first class match, was unbeaten on 31 off 35 balls with five boundaries.

Play will begin at 1:30 pm for the remaining days.
