Men’s rugby team dethroned by Jamaica in final

The national men’s sevens rugby team fell just short of clinching the 2017 RAN 7s championship in Mexico City yesterday, losing 24-28 in the final to a game Jamaican outfit.

According to reports, the final was knotted at 14 apiece at halftime but the ruggers from the ‘Land of Wood and Water’ went on to claim victory with a final minute game winning try against the eight-time champions.

The win over Guyana books their tickets to next year’s Rugby World Cup Sevens and the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series qualifier in Hong Kong. The Jamaicans also clinched berths at the Commonwealth Games and Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) Games.
