National Open boxing c/ships get cracking tonight

A flurry of punches is set to be thrown from tonight when the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) stages its Terrence Ali National Open Championships at the National Gymnasium.

According to Technical Director of the association, Terrence Poole, the three-night championships will feature the nation’s elite pugilists vying for trophies and medals.

Poole told this publication that he envisions in excess of 60 combatants in fistic action from gyms, including the Forgotten Youth Foundation, Savannah Gym, Pocket Rocket, Rose Hall Jammers, Essequibo, Young Achievers, Harpy Eagles, GDF, Republican and Police.

Bell time is 19:00hrs nightly and admission is $500 for general seating. VIP is $1000.

Boxers who will excel at this event, will be on the shortlist to represent the Golden Arrowhead at the Caribbean Development Tournament scheduled for St Lucia from December 13-16.

On the final day of this weekend’s fixture, former Soca Monarch, Kwasi Ace Edmounson will be performing during intermission.

Other fund raising activities are also planned to help offset expenses for the team which will be selected for the St. Lucia event.
