A seventh wicket century stand between all-rounders Kenroy Williams and Justin Greaves dug the Barbados Pride out of a tricky position against the Guyana Jaguars, and guided the visitors to 282 – 7 at the close of the opening day, yesterday, in fifth round action of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Four Day tournament at the National Stadium at Providence.

The pair came together with the score on 123 – 5, following the demise of Kevin Stoute (4

7) and flourished in their 121-run stand, as both men recorded half-centuries while stalling the Jaguars early inroads.

Williams was the early aggressor in the partnership, lacing ten fours in his 144 ball innings of 68, before he was dismissed by seamer Keemo Paul, late in the afternoon.

Greaves, meanwhile, remains unbeaten on 72 at the close, his second fifty at the regional level. The 23 year old notched ten fours, one of which he drove elegantly pass the ankles of Keon Joseph.

The Tridents had earlier found themselves in trouble after winning the toss and electing to take first strike.

Speedster Joseph worked up a head of steam and removed opener Anthony Alleyne (11), skipper Shamarh Brooks (0) and Jonathan Carter (4), to leave the visitors reeling on 32 -3, in the seventh over.

Tridents though benefitted from a 78 run stand between Stoute and Shayne Moseley (43) who steadied things, before Greaves and Williams continued the rebuilding of the innings.

Joseph finished the day with 3 – 63, as Paul (2-54), snared two late afternoon wickets, and the spinners, Veerasammy Permaul wicketless in his 27 overs and Gudakesh Motie, 1 – 43, underlined the Tridents success at the end of the opening day.
