Rose Hall Town Jammers upsets Dyna’s Ravens

Rose Hall Town Jammers recorded an historic 64-60 victory over Dyna’s Ravens to open the fourth Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) ‘Road to Mecca’ Club Championship, on Friday.

It was an historic win on many fronts, as the Berbice unit, which is coached by two females, overcame a first period deficit to secure the win.

Trailing 15-22 entering the second quarter, the Berbicians outscored Ravens 17-7 to seize control of the match leading 32-29 heading into the halftime interval.

Jammers increased their lead in the third period, recording 15 points while restricting Ravens to 12 points to enter the final period ahead at 47-41.

The Berbice unit held on in the final period to seal the win even though they were marginally outscored 19-17. Shemar France top scored with 17 points and seven rebounds while Michael King chipped in with a double/double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Kwesi Mickel added 13 points, three steals and David Hope registered 11 points.

For the losing team,  Tyrone Hamid accumulated 22 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Ryan Stephney added 11 points and Marlon Rodrigues contributed nine points, five steals. Ryan Gullen had a night to `remember’ with two points and four rebounds.

Meanwhile, defending champion Colts crushed Half Mile Bulls 94-55.  Shane Webster led the way with a double/double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Dennis Niles chipped in with 17 points and Dave Causway added 15 points, nine rebounds, four steals and six assists.

Supporting with 12 points and six rebounds was Jonathan Mangra. For the losers, Delon Pellew top scored with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Jeffrey LaRose added 19 points, eight rebounds and Terron Welch netted 11 points.

Similarly, Victory Valley Royals humbled a Nikkoloi Smith less Plaisance Guardians 82-59. Harold Adams, Alwyn Rodney and Israel Hardon netted 20, 18 and eight points respectively in the victory.

On the other side, Trenton Woolford recorded 14 points, nine rebounds, while Nicholas Cassius, Kwame Fox and Nigel Bowen tallied nine, eight and eight points apiece.

The event continues today at the same venue with another tripleheader. At 17:00hrs, Pacesetters will battle Retrieve Raiders, while Dyna’s Ravens will lock horns with Amelia’s Ward Jets at 19:00hrs.

In the final fixture, Royals will match skills with Kobras from 21:00hrs.
