Western Tigers stay unbeaten with come-from-behind win over Milerock

Fruta Conquerors and Western Tigers stayed  unbeaten in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ‘Elite League’ after defeating Ann’s Grove and Milerock respectively Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden.

The Tucville-based giant downed the East Coast Demerara unit 3-0.

Jermin Junior opened the scoring in the second minute, heading the ball over the advancing goalkeeper from inside the box.

Veteran forward Anthony `Awo’ Abrams doubled their lead in the 79th minute, racing onto a through pass before dribbling a defender and firing a powerful effort into the top left corner of the net.

The score line was then sealed in the fourth  minute of stoppage time when Eon Alleyne scored, blasting his effort into the lower left side, after racing onto a through pass.

In the other fixture, Western Tigers overcame a one goal deficit to edge Milerock 2-1. The Linden unit took the lead in the fifth minute when Kester Randolph scored from the penalty mark.

However, Andrew Murray Jr., equalised in the 43rd minute with a curling free-kick which sailed over the wall and settled to the right corner, from just outside the left of the 18-yard area.

Murray Jr., then grabbed what proved to be the winning goal in the 69th minute, thumping a powerful right-foot strike into the left corner, from inside the right half of the penalty box.

The event will resume today at the Den Amstel ground with another doubleheader. At 14:00hrs, Victoria Kings will battle Cougars while the main clash at 16:00hrs will pit Buxton United against Den Amstel.
