Andrea Johnson was elected president of the National Association for Women’s Football (NAWF), following its electoral congress on Saturday December 16th at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Boardroom.

Johnson, who recently held the association’s portfolio of Secretary, replaced Charmaine Wade. Wade did not seek re-election.

The other members elected to office for the two-year lifespan of the executive are 1st Vice President Magzene Stewart [also an GFF Executive Committee Member], 2nd Vice President Ayla Kenyon, Secretary Rowena Williams, Treasurer Denneze Lovell, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Samantha Johnson and Ordinary Member Lawrence Griffith.

The other positions to be voted on at a later date as allowed in the NAWF’s constitution are Assistant Secretary and two additional Ordinary Members.

According to a release from the GFF, Johnson said, “I’m enthusiastic about the newly-elected Executive in terms of working with the Federation for the betterment and development of women’s football in Guyana. The areas that we will be looking at are the outlying areas of Guyana – Regions 1, 7, 8 and 9 – because we feel that for too long those areas have been exempted from major football development.”

She further added, “We know those areas have very talented persons when it comes to sport and women’s football, in particular, so we will seek to maximize this.”
