Providence overcome Victoria in village football

Providence overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat home side Victoria 2-1, when the Banks Beer Village Cup continued on Saturday at the Victoria Community Centre ground.

The East Bank Demerara unit fell behind in the 41st minute, as Jermin Hunter blasted a flat right-foot shot down the centre of the net.

However, Providence equalised upon the resumption in the 46th minute, as Roberto Osbourne scored.

The burly forward raced onto a through pass inside the right of the penalty box, before uncorking a powerful right foot shot into the lower left corner.

The come-from-behind win was then completed in the 65th minute, with Travis Grant slotting home unchallenged into the empty net, after collecting a left side pass inside the six-yard box.

Meanwhile, Lima Dam edged Golden Grove 2-1. Samuel Van Dyke recorded a double in the 21st and 50th minute for the victor, while Julius Hamilton netted in the 64th minute.

On the other side, Terrence Lewis and Kelvin Heywood found the back of the net in the 24th and 60th minute apiece.

Also, Beterverwagting (BV) defeated Stabroek via a walkover. The event continues today with the final round of group fixtures at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.

At 18:30hrs, Pouderoyen will oppose Kitty, while Stewartville battles Alexander Village in the feature clash at 20:30hrs.
