Ten beauties have been selected to vie for the Miss Guyana World crown and title in a pageant set to be staged at the Marriott Hotel on June 25.

The ten were presented to the public on May 26 at Giftland Mall’s entertainment strip and where they were sashed and appointed regional ambassadors, each representing an administrative region.

During the sashing ceremony as well-known designer Marcie De Santos debuted her ‘Luxurious Bloom’ collection. Pieces were worn by the ten finalists.

The top ten are: Manisha Mia Lee Wong; Thamesha Watson; Joelly Valentine; Hemwantie Seodat; Vena Mookram; Delisha Wright; Crystal Wills; Arielle Ghanie; Sharda Premdeo and Nitifah Thompson.

While there were 15 top spots only 13 women embarked on the journey which, according to a release from the Miss World Organisation, saw them completing in various challenges for a place in the top ten. The journey included community service, time management, formal dining etiquette, classical music, researching the region they live in, making presentation pitches to the business community to support their projects and creating a five-year plan as a road map to success among others.

During the final stages of the pageant the finalists will be involved in fitness, multimedia, performing arts, interviews and a beauty with a purpose (BWP) fair.

The finalists will be encamped for a few weeks at the Windsor Estates gated community in a Kasson’s Furniture Model House.

According to the release, the Miss World Guyana crown is a symbol for charity and in this context it has partnered with GTT to use its text-to-vote system as the official 2017 People’s Choice competition system.

“This will enable supporters and fans of each finalist to vote for their choice for the crown by texting the number of the region being represented by the contestant. This system will also serve as a fundraiser for the BWP projects of each finalist and will carry the highest points in the overall finals competition,” the release explained.

Each vote will cost $34.80 inclusive of VAT and $10 from each vote will go towards each finalist’s project. The finalist with the most votes wins the People’s Choice Competition and a chance to have her project funded.
