Caribbean Cookout set for 28th July at Carifesta Sports Complex

The first annual Caribbean Cookout, an international food and drink festival will be held on 28th July at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue.

The Caribbean Cookout, a collaboration between the Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry of Social Cohesion’s Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Caricom Secretariat, will be hosted under the theme “A Global Celebration, A Global Experience, A Global Community.”

The festival is set to be a grand one-day celebration in Georgetown, celebrating the customs, lifestyles and cultural identities of peoples from around the world, through their traditional cuisines. The meals will be prepared according to their indigenous preparatory processes, with original ingredients and with the help of nationals of the various countries.

With the assistance and involvement of a number of the diplomatic and consular missions in Guyana, the festival will include a packed cultural programme consisting of live musical performances, fashion displays, and dance routines.

The Guyanese section of the festival will feature ginger-beer, sorrel, mauby and local fruit juices to quench the thirst of festival attendees. Souse, pepperpot, metagee, roti and curry, black and white pudding, along with a variety of other Guyanese delicacies will be available in abundance at the festival.

The aroma of dishes like pelau, green fig and salt fish, doubles, cou-cou and others, from Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados will be emanating from the Caribbean section of the festival.

In the international section patrons will be encouraged to taste their way around the world, sampling dishes like Nigerian peppersoup, Chilean empanadas, Russian beef stroganoff, Texas barbecue, Mexican tamales and lots more. Beers, wines, rum and cocktails from all over the Caribbean, the United States and Europe will also be at the festival.

 Admission to the festival is free and it will be child friendly with games and rides.
