Bowen, Hussain star in Eco Champs victory over Everest

Georgetown Eco Champs defeated Everest Cricket Club by 100 runs with Byron Bowen scoring a half century in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association Friends of Cricket Under-17 tournament at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation Ground yesterday.

Eco Champs won the toss and elected to bat first and despite intermittent showers, climbed to 228 all out in 43.5 overs before bowling Everest out for 128 in 27.1 overs. Eco Champs’ batting performance was highlighted by Bowen who stroked six boundaries in his innings before being caught off the bowling of Raiz Mohammed.

Together, Bowen and Dominic Roberts shared in a 62-run partnership with Roberts contributing 29.

The Richard Ishmael Secondary School student then partnered with Sameer Hussain and they took the score from 130 to 212. Hussain departed on 48 trying to clear deep square after smashing eight fours in his flamboyant innings.

However, the wicket of Hussain triggered a hat trick for Raynaldo Mohammed who removed both Akash Tiwari and Keon Wright in the following deliveries to end on 3-33.

Mohammed was supported by Ariel Tilku who took 3-63 while contributions came from Dwain Dick (32) and extras which accounted for 45 runs.

In the chase, a mix up resulted in the run out of Anthony Khan for just one while Mohammed was trapped leg before wicket to Bowen for 17.

Tilku and Yudister Persaud added 53 for the third wicket but both quickly departed with Tilku short of his ground after pushing to Dick at long on and attempting a single but Dick was spot on, removing him for 32 as Persaud was given leg before wicket to Wright for 15.

Mitra Dhanraj ended with 3-35 with two wickets in his fourth over.
