Bandits rob America St clothes vendor in New Year’s night attack

A clothing vendor was robbed at gunpoint at his stand at the corner of America and Longden streets on Monday night.

Police said that the victim, Dexter Forrester, 27, of Two Friends Housing Scheme, Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, was robbed of a gold chain, valued $135,000, a gold and diamond ring, valued $125,000, and $55,000 cash.

Forrester was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, at around 11.10 pm.

Police yesterday explained that just before the attack, Forrester was packing up his merchandise. A silver grey Toyota Premio motor car then drove past him and turned around. The car stopped next to Forrester’s vehicle and the perpetrators of the robbery exited. Upon approaching Forrester, a bandit whipped out his gun, pointed it at him and told him “don’t move.” As Forrester was held at gunpoint, the bandits relieved him of his cash and jewellery.

The armed bandit discharged a round in an unknown direction before the men rejoined their car and they made good their escape.

Police said the scene was searched but no spent shell was found.
