The accused Sohil Nabbi and the parcels of marijuana that were found in his trunk

West Coast Berbice lawmen last evening intercepted a young taxi driver with almost two pounds of packaged marijuana in the car he was driving at the time.

Sohil Nabbi, 23, of Lot 54 Burn Bush Dam, Cumberland Village, East Canje Berbice, was immediately taken into custody after being intercepted by a mobile police patrol.

According to a police source, Nabbi was operating HB 9274 when ranks from the Weldaad Police Station intercepted him.

The police then searched the lad’s car and discovered two black garbage bags containing parcels of marijuana in the trunk. The items were subsequently weighed and amounted to some 800 grammes, which is equivalent to 1.76 pounds.

Meanwhile, a police source told Stabroek News that the lad is claiming that he was hired by a man from Stanleytown, New Amsterdam to make a pickup at the Rosignol Stelling yesterday afternoon. Nabbi is reportedly claiming that a boat operator loaded his trunk with the bags, which he was allegedly hired to pick up. The police are currently investigating his claims.
