Cops awaiting legal advice on Turkeyen station rape probe

The file on the investigation of the alleged rape committed by two policemen on a Sophia woman at the Turkeyen Police Station on New Year’s Day has been sent for legal advice, Crime Chief Paul Williams says.

Williams told Stabroek News that the file is currently at the office of the Guyana Police Force’s legal adviser retired Justice Claudette Singh, whose input will guide how the force proceeds in the case.

The police wrapped up their investigation last week.

Police Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlakhan had said that the complainant went to the station to lodge a report against an individual who threw a squib at her son. At the station, she requested to use the washroom and was directed to one on the top flat, where she was later allegedly attacked.
