Man found at Canal #2 conservancy died from fall

An autopsy has confirmed that Irvin Rodriguez, who was found dead at Conservancy Dam, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, died as a result of injuries he sustained during a fall and two men who were arrested in connection with his death have since been released.

Divisional Commander Leslie James confirmed the findings of the autopsy to Stabroek News on Friday.

Rodriguez, 40, of the North West District, was discovered lying face down under a shed near the Conservancy Dam around 5.30 am last Tuesday. Murder had been suspected. Residents had described Rodriguez as an alcoholic, who was known for doing odd jobs around the area.

The men who were held were last seen drinking with Rodriguez.

A man, who asked not to be named, had told this newspaper that when he reported for work on Tuesday morning, he made the discovery of the body. “I see he lay down, so I go touch he on his shoulder and tell he get up from there, not knowing is a dead man I did talking to,” he had said.
