A Charlestown woman was yesterday placed on $25,000 bail for allegedly trying to smuggle ganja into the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that Tia Gittens, 20, on January 28th at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court introduced 6.30 grammes of cannabis into the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court lock up.

Gittens pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the day in question Gittens was seen in the compound holding a black plastic bag and acting in a suspicious manner. She was contacted by officers who searched the bag and found two packets of cheese sticks and two packets of biscuits. On checking the packets of cheese sticks, leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were discovered.

Gittens was taken to the Brickdam Police Station, arrested and later charged.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore placed the woman on $25,000 bail and adjourned the matter until February 28th.
