Charge to be laid over cocaine in fish

Today, the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) is to lay a charge against Amir Ally who was arrested on Tuesday by ranks stationed at the Cheddi Jagan International Air-ort, Timehri in relation to cocaine in frozen fish, a source told Stabroek News.

Ranks intercepted the stash of cocaine concealed in partly frozen fish destined for the United States.  The source said that they were preparing to release Ally at the end of his 72-hour detention period, but based on new information, the anti- narcotic unit will institute charges.

According to the source, they are looking for other suspects including a businessman of Goed Fortuin Housing Scheme who is believed to have gone into hiding.

Stabroek News learnt that the six other persons who were detained during investigations were released on Wednesday.

The amount of cocaine found in the fish is said to be some 9.366 kilogrammes.
