Four Venezuelans fined $30,000 each for illegal entry

Four Venezuelan nationals were each fined $30,000 on Wednesday for illegally entering Guyana.

The charge, which was read separately to the women, stated that on February 2nd at Eteringbang, Cuyuni River, they entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.

The four women, Sinai Hererra, 23, Edis Herrerra, 21, Maria Brito, 23, and Yisneidi Sidian, 22, all pleaded guilty to the charge.

The facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the said date ranks from the Bartica Police Station were on patrol when they came into contact with the defendants. When they were asked to present their documents, they failed to do so.

The four Venezuelan nationals were held by the police and taken to the CID Headquarters. The defendants said that they had been brought to Guyana by someone called “Junior” who allegedly told them that they would not have any problems with the police.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan fined the women $30,000 each or eight weeks imprisonment. After paying the fine or serving their time, they will be deported.
