Man remanded over robbery at Abdul Wahab General Store

A man on Friday appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court charged with the robbery committed on the Abdul Wahab General Store last Saturday at Klien-Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

Kevin Edghill, 22, a miner of Samaroo Dam, Klien-Pouderoyen, WBD, appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool and pleaded not guilty to the charge. The charge read that on Saturday 3rd of February being armed with a weapon that is to say a gun, he robbed Bebe Wahab, Kashieve Wahab, 29, and Siddeeqah Khan of a firearm, a quantity of Jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash.

After pleading not guilty to the charge, Edghill who was unrepresented, was remanded to prison. The matter has been transferred to the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court where Edghill is to make his next court appearance tomorrow.

At around 4pm on the said day, Police said three men entered the General Store and launched an attack. One of the bandits whipped out a gun from his haversack and pointed it at Jainarine Mahadeo, 40, a salesman, of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara. Mahadeo was forced to lie on the ground by the gunman. The two other bandits then proceeded to the businesswoman, Bebe Wahab, 65, and her other family members Kashieve and Khan, who reside above the store.

The bandits, police said, tied up the victims and placed tape over their mouths before proceeding to ransack the building in search of valuables. The men managed to escape with a quantity of gold jewellery, an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables.
