The lifeless body of a 53-year-old man was discovered floating in a trench at Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, yesterday afternoon.

Dead is Terrence James, called ‘Dog Hand,’ a resident of Lot 16 Sancho Street, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.

While it is suspected that James may have drowned, the police are awaiting a post-mortem examination to confirm how he met his demise.

Stabroek News was told that James, who was a known alcoholic, was last seen drinking around 9.30 pm on Monday at a restaurant and bar along the Nabaclis Public Road.

He then left for an unknown location.

A resident of the area, who discovered the body, reportedly told the police that he had just exited his yard when he saw the body floating face down.

At the time, James was clad in a yellow jersey and cream coloured pants. He also had a bag hanging around his left shoulder.

The police were summoned to the scene and the body was examined. No visible marks of violence were evident.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.
