West Coast Berbice businessman robbed of cash, electronics

A West Coast Berbice businessman is now counting his losses after burglars robbed him of $24,000 cash, a quantity of cellphones valued at $560,000, one pack of Digicel cards valued at $25,000 and one Acer laptop worth $120,000, sometime between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Stabroek News was told that the businessman, Nezam Bacchus, 38, of Lot 13 Section F D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice retired for bed along with his family in the upper flat of his premises sometime around 8 pm on Friday last.

When Bacchus woke up on Saturday morning and ventured downstairs to the lower flat of his building where he operates his business, a DVD and electronic store, he discovered a window in his shop wide open. Upon making checks immediately the businessman discovered  the items missing.

A report was made to the police and an investigation has since been launched. The police yesterday said that several persons were questioned but no arrest has been made as yet.
